Prison Harvest Ministry

Remember those in Prison as if you were their fellow prisoners and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering. (Hebrews 13:3)

The Prison Harvest Ministry began in 1998. It was restricted to one region of prisons only. In the year 2000 God gave favour before the prison authorities and the ministry was allowed to take the message of Jesus Christ into all the prisons in Kenya. Prison Harvest Ministry is one of the few Christian ministries that has this permission.

The Prison Harvest Ministry is a ministry of Jesus Celebration Centre (J.C.C.), Mombasa. The senior pastor of J.C.C., Wilfred Lai, has been used by God mightily in opening of doors into the prisons. Currently the Prison Harvest Ministry has about 20 ministers.

In obedience to the great commission of Lord Jesus in Mark 16:15, the Prison Harvest Ministry has seen tremendous changes that have occurred to the inmates and also to the prison wardens. Many hardcore criminals have turned over their lives.

VISION

a. SHARING THE GOSPEL:
To preach the message of hope to the inmates, some of whom have given up on life or have been rejected by society and their families. Others escaped the death penalty by God's grace and are now looking for a change in life. Similarly to also reach the prison wardens with the message of salvation.

This is fulfilled within the prison through:

• Open air meetings
• Bible studies
• Giving out Christian material and Bibles
• Showing Christian films
• Radio and TV programmes

b. REHABILITATION:

Once inmates are saved they need to enter into both spiritual and physical rehabilitation. This helps them to come out of their guilt conscience by accepting God's forgiveness. It varies from one inmate to another depending on the nature of the crime in which one was involved. The Prison Harvest Ministry organizes seminars helping them to grow spiritually.

After they are released from prison, they are received in the local churches where they are built up by the Word of God. The Prison Harvest Ministry assists them to start a fresh their normal life outside the prison walls by providing jobs in the workshops to help them to generate an income for themselves.

Jesus himself says in Matthew 25:36; ...I was in prison and you came to me... Verse 40; ...in as much as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me. (NKJV)

Whenever you touch an inmate with your love you are touching Jesus Himself! Whenever you show mercy to an inmate, you are doing it to Jesus!

We are all commissioned to reach them with the gospel of Jesus Christ! The inmates need our love, and our love needs to be practical.
